    Wormy Chestnut

A combination of three eucalypt species come under the Wormy Chestnut banner. Pieces are straw blonde to light brown in colour and are selected for their featured appearance, the result of years of wildfires, drought and insect attacks. Gum veins, pinholes and squiggly worm marks are all desired features that give this timber a rustic charm.

    Tasmanian Oak

Tasmanian Oak is the cumulation of three Eucalyptus hardwoods grown and sourced in Tasmania. It is a light coloured, straight grain timber that includes minimal feature, making it the perfect understated timber to compliment any furniture design. Colours within the species range from straw to a light red brown.

    American White Oak

Popular for its unique and coarse figure American Oak is overall quite light in colour with light to dark brown heartwood. The cellular appearance on the end grain makes it a popular choice when visible end grain is displayed through a particular design. Grown in America's eastern states and sourced from local specialist timber suppliers.

    American Black Walnut

The naturally darkest and most desired timber we work with. Walnut has a light to dark chocolatey brown heartwood with creamy white sapwood and is super smooth in colour and tactility. It’s a pleasure to work with and a treat to dine on.

IN TIMBER WE CHAT with Emma from @1k_chairs

Emma is a passionate advocate for local furniture and widely known as Adelaide’s queen of chairs.

Through 1K Chairs, she’s spent many years working across high-end commercial and residential spaces, helping designers and homeowners find pieces that truly belong in their environment.

What stood out most to us is Emma’s passion for using timber in a way that carries meaning and creates connection with the person using it — a perspective that resonates deeply with us.

This series is about hearing how different people think about materials, and this conversation with Emma had us totally enthralled by her stories and knowledge… so much so that it could have easily turned into a full YouTube episode.

So pull up a chair and join the conversation, or send this to a friend who enjoys chatting timber.

Normal Friday activities at Built = blindfolding the boss and making him identify timber by smell.

Completely normal.

But honestly…
There’s something about walking into a workshop and being able to smell your furniture being made.

If that sounds like your kind of furniture journey…
Come smell the woodchips.

Some people look for dining tables while others seek something a little more.

A place where people naturally gather and meals are only a small part of the story.

Homework gets spread out.
Projects begin.
Conversations run longer than planned.
Celebrations happen without needing a reason.

Furniture from the workshop floor feels different. It’s a piece you connect with, not just something you buy. It comes with a story of creation and works as hard as you do. Not just at dinner time but in the moments that quietly shape family life.

It doesn’t just hold plates, but the rhythm and soul of a home.

In Timber We Trust.
