In September 2010 an exciting 2-year transformation took place on Port Road, Queenstown.
A space which was originally used to make commercial cool rooms would soon become the heart and soul of BUILT Furniture.
The once run down factory required extensive upgrades including full replacement of all concrete floors, removal/re-engineering of structural beams, re-roofing and construction of all internal showroom walls and windows.
Whilst the work required was long and intensive, it gave us the opportunity to set up the factory and machinery required to run a modern and progressive, 910sqm, solid timber furniture manufacturing facility.
The factory at this stage was a blank canvas which we would soon fill with machinery. When selecting what was required, it was important to purchase quality pieces that were precise, would withstand the heavy duty of machining solid timber and would last the test of time.
Once selected, the machinery began its journey from Italy directly to our factory floor. Whilst waiting, we began the engineering process for all of our solid timber storage racks, which now stock up to 20 cubic meters of timber in more than 10 different species at any given time. It is from these racks that all of our timber is individually hand selected to suit our clients taste.
Each of our qualified furniture makers has their own unique work space which they take pride in maintaining, ensuring a happy, safe and free flowing work environment. Once assigned a job the makers focus is on seeing that piece through selections, construction and personally delivering and installing once completed.
Clients who visit our premises and tour our factory feel proud to know that their furniture is manufactured locally in a specialty built factory which aims to keep solid timber furniture manufacturing alive in South Australia. They are in awe of the space, machinery and skill required to construct their furniture and love that the space is available for them to visit at any stage during the design and manufacturing process.
